Jazz Tuesdays with Jimmy Smith and James Hughes
February 6 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pmFree
Jazz Tuesdays is a weekly event featuring great jazz musicians from all over the state of Michigan. Each week brings in a different guest artist and a new experience.
Jimmy Smith and James Hughes are first-call freelancing musicians in Detroit and have performed with jazz giants like Jimmy Heath, Dave Liebman, Richie Cole, John Clayton, Jerry Bergonzi, Jim Rotondi, Michael Phillip Mossman, Steve Wilson, and Kenny G. Jimmy appears on recordings by The Men of Grace, Wayne Kounty, Bob Mervak, and The Motor City Horns. James appears on recordings by The Scott Gwinnell Jazz Orchestra, Carl Cafagna & North Star Jazz, Bobby Streng’s House Big Band, Keith Vreeland, and Davison Magpie. Together, they form the horn section for Detroit soul legend Melvin Davis, and also perform with the Bluewater Kings and the Woodward Horns.
The host band plays the first set at 7pm, followed by a jam session during which jazz musicians are welcome to sit-in.
Jazz Tuesdays is generously sponsored by Gregg Hill Publishing, the East Lansing Summer Solstice Jazz Festival, and INDe Drum Lab.
