CALLING ALL JAMM MEMBERS!
Join the Bucket Brigade at the Summer Solstice Jazz Festival!
In the past, The Jazz Alliance of Mid-Michigan has participated in the Summer Solstice Jazz Festival in various ways. Some years we had our own information table, last year we had the “JAMM VAN” as a place for attendees to learn about JAMM and purchase merchandise.
This year, JAMM decided to go in a different direction, and has secured all the spots for the Bucket Brigade, as our service to the 2018 East Lansing Summer Solstice Jazz Festival, June 22-23. If you would like to volunteer to be a part of the JAMM Bucket Brigade, please email JAMM’s President, Lois Mummaw, at email@example.com with your first and second choices for day and shift preference. You will receive an email confirmation from Lois and, later on, an informational email from the City of East Lansing.
Lois informs us that the role can be described as, “outgoing, positive and energetic volunteers needed to distribute festival programs and solicit donations from festival attendees following each main-stage performance.”
If you’d like to volunteer at the festival for a position other than the JAMM Bucket Brigade, please visit www.eljazzfest.com
Here are the slots available at this time. Five people are needed during each of these shifts:
3:30pm – 7:30pm
7:30pm – 11:00pm
3:00pm – 7:30pm
7:30pm – 11:00pm
It may help you decide which shifts you want by knowing who is playing during any of these slots. You may find performers and schedules by viewing this weeks JAMM newsletter. If you aren’t a subscriber, you can still read it at this website by clicking “Newsletter” button above.
If you’ve not done it before, being part of the Bucket Brigade is very simple and something attendees appreciate very much. You will be welcomed as you walk around, helping folks find a way to donate to the festival they are enjoying so much, with no cover charge, no tickets required.
If you have any questions before you decide to volunteer, just write to Lois, at email listed above.
See you soon!

WHAT IS JAZZ DAY?
Perhaps on the surface “Jazz Day” may sound like just another global concert and some local celebrations and shows, like the one JAMM is presenting, as a way to join in.
In reality, International Jazz Day is a major project and a vision, rooted in the following principles, ones that JAMM fully supports and works for, as well:
“In November 2011, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) officially designated April 30th as International Jazz Day in order to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe…Share the vibrancy and vitality of jazz music with students and educators from around the world on April 30th. International Jazz Day brings together communities, schools, artists, historians, academics, and jazz enthusiasts on all continents to celebrate and learn about jazz and its roots, future and impact.”
If you want to know more about this year’s Global Concert, the official website is filled with great information, images and ways to be involved.
Our Annual Jazz Day Dance Party is listed on their site!
Check out their Event Map and you’ll find us.

This year’s Global Host City is Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation, shown here. The concert is livestreamed on April 30. Again, for details, visit their website.
