January 10—9th Annual JAMM Mixer @ Moriarty’s Pub. JAMM Scholarship Quartet played. Big success. Over 50 people renewed or became members.
April 30—International Jazz Day Party held at MSU Community Music School. Great venue. Free to non-profits. Program was A Tribute to Sarah Vaughn with musicians from Detroit done in partnership with Michigan ArtShare. Not well attended. Need to rethink day/time/type of program for 2018.
June 23-24—Summer Solstice Jazz Festival. JAMM Contributed $500. Candice and Frank staffed the JAMM Van selling memberships, tshirts, and mugs. JAMM hosted the Dangerous Knights Chess Club from Lansing and a group of students from Village Summit School facilitated by JAMM Members Lynne Martinez and Paulette Hatchett. The JAMM Scholarship Quartet performed and the 2017 Sandy Izenson Scholarship Recipient, Evan Dempsey, was presented with his certificate and $500 check. JAMM members marched in Second Line Parade and volunteered for the Bucket Brigade and Friends seating.
August 4-5—Lansing JazzFest. JAMM contributed $500. JAMM Scholarship Quartet performed. JAMM Members helped with the Bucket Brigade.
August 12—Phil Denny’s Smooth Jazz Fete. JAMM contributed $500. This was the first time for this event. It was decided that in the future, JAMM will only contribute to not-for- profit community events like SSJF and LJF.
November 12—9 th Annual JAMM Tribute Concert honoring Jeff Kressler at MSU Community Music School. Well attended. Great program. First time for Tribute at this venue. Decided to have it here every year.
JAMM exceeded its $5000 Capital Campaign Goal due in large part to those of you who donated $100 or more in addition to your membership dues and to a very generous year-end contribution from a JAMM Founding Member.
The October Annual JAMM Meeting was cancelled due to the President’s hospitalizations and chronic illness. The Annual JAMM has been rescheduled for Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 6:00 pm at 1267 Lakeside Drive, East Lansing where we will elect officers, review the budget, and plan for 2018.
